52,800 Cans Arriving Friday, September 14

WHAT: Hurricane Florence, now rated a Category 2 hurricane, is approaching the Carolina coasts and residents are preparing to hunker down for what the National Weather Service is estimating to be catastrophic flash flooding and tropicalstorm-force winds. In response, the Can’d Aid Foundation in partnership with Oskar Blues Brewery and Ball Corporation has sent 22 pallets of water to support relief efforts. In a natural disaster, clean drinking water is oftentimes difficult to come across. An initial 52,800 cans of fresh drinking water will arrive in the area this week. Oskar Blues Brewery will again shut down brewing operations at their Longmont, Colorado, facility next week to can additional water to support ongoing relief efforts.

WHEN: To get ahead of hurricane season, Can’d Aid & OBB worked to can 27 pallets/64,800 cans of water so they could respond as quickly as possible once news of a pending storm broke. The first truckload of canned water will arrive in North Carolina on Friday, September 14.

WHERE: In Raleigh, North Carolina, Long Beverage will distribute the water to local organizations and city entities once need has been determined.

WHY: Can’d Aid is all about spreading people powered do-goodery through Towns, Tunes, Treads + Trails and Love Yur Mama efforts nationwide. Since its inception in 2013, more than 1.25 million cans of water have been shipped postdisaster, over 2,000 bikes have been built for underprivileged youth, 1,000 instruments have been donated and the equivalent of 33 million cans recycled.
